Hydraulic expansion is a method of expansion where the objects are filled with water or oil. Once filled, the water or oil is pressurized past the yield point of the material thereby providing expansion. This method is used extensively in manufacturing crank shaft, heat exchangers, air conditioning coils etc.

Hydro expanding allows higher stiffness to weight ratio at lower costs per unit. In many cases hydro expansion is a cheap alternative for high cost traditional manufacturing procedures like welding or machining.
